As a former Torrance City Councilwoman I worked with many in both the public and private sectors. I traveled this nation working on projects that benefited our local municipalities. Doing this work, which really was my avocation, allowed me to learn what makes a great team player and who I should avoid due to their lack of following through with their word. Fast forward to the person who will be replacing our great Assemblyman Ted Lieu. I have become accustomed to having the ear of our current assemblyman to listen to my requests on behalf of my constituents and then take action to remedy an issue. I took my time looking for Ted's replacement and interviewed most of the candidates. One woman stood out above all the others and that person was Kate Anderson. Perhaps the first and foremost trait she possesses is to make you feel important and she accomplishes this with her "active" listening skills. I found her to be an excellent communicator with great interpersonal skills. When I can speak to someone and have them look me in the eye during our conversation speaks volumes about who I would want to build the coalitions that have been hindering the work of our assembly. As we continued to meet, before I would make up my mind on who I would give my Endorsement, I would further learn of the talent she had in her trade and the experience she gained from her work with Congressman Henry Waxman. This experience helped me understand that Kate would not need a year to learn the ropes of the job as Assemblywoman because she has already worked the "Halls" of our State Capital in her employment with the Congressman. On top of this experience she has earned a Law Degree from the University of Chicago and practices at Munger, Tolles, & Olson LLP. For me, passing The "Bar" is a big plus in a person's ability to understand the many complicated roles one serves as a Assembly member. I encourage all to vote for Kate Anderson for the 53rd Assembly District.
